Rustic Industrial Lighting for Denver Home/Office Combo
Thanks to this year’s pandemic, many people find themselves working from home with most scrambling to carve out office space at the kitchen counter or the dining room table.
Others have had the pleasure of working from home pre-pandemic including Marke and Kimberly of Denver, Colorado. They combined their home and work spaces into a “creative ecosystem with separate but complementary parts: the house, shop, and outdoor spaces.”
In the Highlands neighborhood, just west of downtown, the couple’s home is connected via a delightful courtyard to their graphic design business called The Made Shop. Highlighted with board-and-batten wood siding and standing-seam metal roofs, the buildings exude a welcoming rustic-industrial style.
When searching for lighting, the couple wanted to be able to customize fixtures exactly as they envisioned for the exterior spaces.
“We lean towards classic utilitarian fixtures that we know are well made,” Kimberly says. “We prefer shopping with U.S. companies, but budget is also a factor for us.” Working with Visual Interest, Barn Light Electric’s commercial rep in Denver, Kimberly and Marke searched for lights to complement their simple palette of black, white, and natural wood.
“We picked the gooseneck for the facade because it has the simplicity and style we were going for — classic and not fussy,” Kimberly explains. “The whole exterior of our home is black and white, so it was clear that we would stay the course with these fixtures.”
For the covered porch that faces the street, they were unsure at first what the space needed for lighting. But when they discovered the Kao Primary Schoolhouse Flush Mount Light, it just felt right.
“These feel special and unique in a subtle way,” Kimberly notes. “They are some of my favorite lighting choices we made.” These schoolhouse lights are customized with large opaque globes, Black fitters, and Black painted bands of color.
“We were especially drawn to the custom stripe option on the shades and are so happy we went with that,” she adds. “They are classically simple and absolutely stunning.” The ability to customize handcrafted, American-made fixtures with shade size, finish color, and other mounting options is what sets Barn Light Electric apart.
“We were happy to find Barn Light where we could get all the exact sizes we were after in the shade and arm without high custom prices,” Kimberly says. “We love all of our exterior Barn Light fixtures.”
