A Look Back | Favorite Customer Projects of 2015

One of the best parts of writing blog posts for Barn Light Electric is talking with customers who share their projects with us. We hear about everything from new construction and full-gut remodels to house flipping projects and simple lighting makeovers. Our Featured Customer posts are a great way to highlight our customers’ creativity and show how lights look in many different settings.

So in the spirit of reflection this week, we’re taking a look back at some of our favorite projects featured on the blog this year. We found that one thing all customers want is high-quality lighting crafted to last for generations — you can’t find that in the big-box stores!

Customers appreciate having a real person on the phone to talk through any questions they may have and knowing that more real people handcraft their new light, hand paint it, and assemble it right here in the USA.

Favorite Exterior Lighting — You cannot imagine the excitement when Steve Thomas himself emails photos of his latest renovation project! Yes, Steve Thomas of This Old House fame, shared the highs and lows of renovating a 1903-era coastal cottage in Maine. The crowning touch on the exterior were two Seaside Wall Sconces finished in creamy Jadite.

Favorite Entryway Lighting — We love it when customers tackle difficult spaces and make them both functional and beautiful. Kate’s home has a small entryway that flows directly into a stairway. A hanging pendant didn’t work in this space so she opted for a Primary Schoolhouse Flush Mount Light to match the early 20th century style of her home. The end result has a definite wow factor!

Favorite Kitchen Lighting — We see a lot of kitchen makeovers but the one handled by Christina of Christina’s Adventures stands out. The kitchen is a difficult room to remodel as it has multiple functions and often serves as the hub of the home. Meal prep, homework, late-night snacking all take place in the kitchen and of course everyone gravitates to the kitchen at a party! We love the industrial vibe Christina created here with the Brisbane Stem Mount Pendant Light over her new copper farmhouse sink.

Favorite Bathroom Lighting — Some of our featured customers are professionals who specify our American-made lighting for their clients. Michele Boggs of MB Designs worked with her client to design a Jack-and-Jill bathroom shared by the family’s son and daughter. The Barn Light Mini Artesia Wall Sconce not only had the classic look of a barn light, but these mini wall lights come in a variety of colors to satisfy different tastes. The son’s side of the room got Industrial Grey while his sister loves her new Magenta lights.

Favorite Family Room — There are endless ways to create a comfortable and fun family room but we love the urban chic look that Michelle created in her renovated basement. Although many people think gooseneck lighting is strictly an outdoor light, Michelle knew these Original™ Warehouse Gooseneck Lights would be perfect to highlight the new shuffleboard table. Be sure to check out the before-and-after photos to see the amazing transition of this space!

Favorite Barn —  And of course nothing warms our heart more than a good barn project! A sustainable land-use project in Surrey, England, includes this 10-stable barn with a timber frame design and large central corridor. Andrew wanted traditional barn lighting for the space and found just what he was looking for in The Original™ Warehouse Pendant Light. Andrew posted about his shopping experience on our Facebook page…

“We are very pleased with the product and impressed by the service offered by Barn Light Electric. From the time we made the initial enquiry through to shipment to our address in the UK, everyone at the company was a pleasure to deal with.”

Thanks Andrew! We’re looking forward to the new year, new customers, and new projects to feature!
