Professional’s Corner | Barn Wall Sconce as a Rustic Vanity Light in a Vermont Cabin
In a previous post , we visited a secluded Vermont cabin tucked away on a winding path where architect Joan Heaton created a cozy yet light-filled cabin for her clients. Even with high ceilings and plenty of windows, Heaton knew lighting the 600-square-foot cabin was critical especially in winter. She chose the 12″ Original™ Warehouse Pendant in a Galvanized finish for the living area which features warm pickled pine paneling and a natural pine ceiling.
“The cabin is very open; you can see from one room to the next so it was important to me that the lighting be consistent,” she says. “I often choose lights that are in a family — the same style in different sizes or applications like sconces and pendants.”
In the bathroom, Joan stayed in the barn family and continued the rustic look with an 8″ Austin Wall Sconce. This compact shade is a replica of other classic barn light styles and provides suitable down lighting over the lapboard walls and freestanding vanity.
The American made Austin is hand crafted by our own metal spinners in either the 8″ size or a 10″ size. You may choose from a rainbow of durable powder coat finish colors to customize your light and add a wire cage for a vintage twist.
And now you can have the classic look of an RLM warehouse shade in a larger fixture. The Austin also comes in a 2-Light Vanity Sconce for spaces that needs more light. This fixture features a 24″ backing plate and two slender arms that position the shades just away from the wall. Perfect not only for bathrooms but for laundry rooms and other tight spaces as well.
“The galvanized, barn-style lighting was the right look and price point for the project,” Heaton says. “I wanted something that had clean lines that was affordable and compatible with the other finishes.”
