Porcelain Pendants Give Light, New Life to Vintage Hay Trolley

If you are a regular reader of Barn Light Electric blogs, you’ll recognize the name Rooster Ridge as one of our favorite Featured Customers. Author and artist Jeri Glatter lives at Rooster Ridge in New Jersey where she has used her imaginative touch and artist’s eye to renovate a 100-year-old cottage and house, and where she continues to refresh and renew the barn, gardens, grounds, and a pond.

Jeri is a big fan of creative recycling as shown in this photo of a vintage hay trolley adapted to hoist two Barn Light Electric Ivanhoe® Sinclair Industrial Porcelain Pendants.

ivanhoe_sinclair_industrial_porcelain_pendant-300x199.jpg“We believe the original form of recycling was the age-old tradition of passing items down from one generation to another,” Jeri says. “The Vintage Hay Trolley was designed from a utilitarian perspective to be suspended from above, and we feel it is best appreciated in that venue.” This fixture was designed with a little ingenuity and creative thinking by adding the two pendant lights and lacing them through the pulleys.

“The pendant lights were selected for their authentic green porcelain shades and industrial design,” Jeri explains. “The interest of the mechanical iron pulley is maintained and now has a new purpose!” This unique light hangs above the farm sink in the kitchen of The House at Rooster Ridge which Jeri finished remodeling recently. This particular porcelain shade takes it shape from a 1930s design so it’s a perfect choice for Jeri’s vintage home. Produced with a true, baked-on porcelain enamel finish, this American made, drop cord fixture represents an authentic industrial style. Jeri also chose to add nostalgic Edison style light bulbs to complete the look of her one-of-a-kind light.ivanhoe_sinclair_industrial_porcelain_pendant_kitchen-300x199.jpg

“With the fastidious vintage details of twisted cotton electrical cord and the use of the retro Edison bulbs, the authenticity of the complete design works beautifully,” she says.
