Industrial & Deep Bowl Pendants Star in DIY’s House Crashers

barn_light_industrial_pendant1.jpgSpending the day parked at the barbeque with a frosty drink in one hand may seem the quintessential thing to do on Memorial Day, but in Antelope, California, the day means much more than what’s sizzling on the grill. The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4647 will honor the sacrifices of many with their traditional Memorial Day parade and wind up back at the post to swap stories and welcome new friends. The celebration this year will be extra special as the post canteen (that’s the bar in military lingo) recently underwent a major transformation thanks to House Crashers Host Josh Temple, shown here, and his crew from the DIY Network. Barn Light Electric was proud to pitch in and help our fellow veterans by providing some updated lighting for their new space.

The popular spot was completely transformed from floor to ceiling in just three days with a new concrete bar replacing an old vinyl one, and an old airplane wing finding new life as a very creative table. A new fireplace, beautiful wood flooring, and metal wainscoting complete the conversion from dull to dynamite.

Highlighting the bar are eight Barn Light Indy Industrial Pendants. Based on vintage designs, these minimalist pendants feature a black cord with a turn key switch. The addition of the nostalgic Edison style light bulbs adds an extra dose of vintage personality to the fixtures.

“This is totally different from what it used to be,” explains Canteen Manager Garry Overby. “We used to have small spot lights and flood lights. This cord-hung lighting is great, and we have them all on dimmers.” Over the repurposed airplane wing that now serves as a table, the Farm & Barn 10″ Deep Bowl Pendant provides plenty of light for veterans young and old. This is a great mid-sized fixture that focuses the light downward onto the surface, not into the eyes, making casual conversation much more pleasant. With the addition of some industrial stools around the bar area, the veterans will have plenty of space to relax and remember this Memorial Day.

“We are all just amazed at what everybody did for us,” Garry says. “It’s so different from what we had, and we’re all really enjoying it.” If you missed the initial airing of the episode featuring the VFW revamp, the show will air again on June 16, June 25, and June 29.

And don’t forget to take advantage of the last day of our annual Memorial Day sale! Use the discount code MEMORIAL12 to take 10% off any applicable fixture. See website for details!
