Iconic American Gooseneck Light Evokes Simpler Time at Inn

Following a dream sounds so idyllic and satisfying. In reality, it can be nerve wracking! Back in 2010, Bobbi and Jeff Noe, of Granville, Ohio, decided to take the plunge leaving behind 30 years of corporate sales, marketing and customer service experience to follow their dream of owning a bed and breakfast. In four short years, the Welsh Hills Inn has developed a loyal following receiving TripAdvisor’s coveted Traveler’s Choice Award for the past two years and is included in the Top 10 B&Bs/Inns in the World. Sounds pretty idyllic and satisfying!

“It truly has been a joy and a terrific experience for us,” says Jeff. “Oh, the friends we have made around the globe — we could have never imagined in our wildest dreams!” This summer, the couple embarked on a large landscaping and hardscaping project at the Inn including the addition of courtyard gardens, a bocce ball court, outdoor shower, and new outdoor lighting.

Highlighting the new clay bocce ball court is an iconic gooseneck light — the Avalon Gooseneck Light. This sleek, mid-sized RLM warehouse shade mirrors the farmhouse-inspired styles from the 30s and 40s that are evident throughout the equestrian and alpaca farms that dot the surrounding Ohio countryside.

“We chose this gooseneck light because it’s truly an iconic classic of American farmhouse and agricultural architecture,” Jeff says. “We have a number of antique porcelain lights in various outbuildings around the property, and they have stood the test of time. We love them all and we wanted a product that embodied the beauty and durability of those lights with up-to-date features.” Jeff and Bobbi chose the 16″ shade for this fixture and customized it with a porcelain enamel Black finish, plus a G15 gooseneck arm and wire cage both with a matching Black finish.

“We loved the array of color options, the extensive size and shape options, the wire guard, LED, and dusk-to-dawn photocell options,” Jeff notes. “But most important to us is the fact that is is an American-made product.”

The couple loved the look of the Avalon so much, they also chose one for the new outdoor shower. This gooseneck barn light is customized with a smaller 12″ shade but has the same porcelain Black finish and gooseneck arm style as the larger shade.

“We chose the black gloss finish because it fit with the white clapboard siding on the Inn as well as the deep, almost green-black color of the posts and fencing around the property,” Jeff explains. “They are gorgeous and, honestly, the lights just represent a timeless classic design that we will never get bored with.”

I’ve been searching for lighting such as these for our new home we purchased in the Traverse City, Michigan. We would like to know the steps needed to construct this. I’ll need 3 or 4 of these. What would be the cost.
