Scandinavian Style is Completed with Modern Pendants & Mini Barn Lights

yellow-door.jpgHow appealing is an affordable home with great potential? Apparently, it’s appealing enough to convince a writer and a film editor to leave the bright lights of LA for the sleepy town of Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Just ask Erin Loechner, a writer for several popular design blogs like HGTV’s Design Happens, DIY Life and Design For Mankind. The creative couple chose Fort Wayne because it allowed them to customize their dream home without paying a custom LA price. Last year, Erin contacted us about using barn lights as part of their renovation plans. They wanted to incorporate these as part of their effort to complete a Mid Century Modern, Scandinavian style home.

“Ken and I both think that the only spectacular thing about the home was its immense potential. To put it another way, the house was cheap and demanded a big project. We’ve always wanted to embark on an exciting renovation, so it was a match made in heaven!” – Erin Loechner

galvanized-kitchen-pendant.jpgAbove their kitchen island, Erin utilized our Brewster Pendants. As you can see in the left photo, the galvanized finish on the Brewster Pendants adds to the industrial look of the exposed ductwork and stove pipe. They have a decorative center that when lit, allows for the linear design to mirror the sharp clean lines throughout the home. She chose a frosted glass option so that it gives off a warm glow and disguises the interior light bulbs.

Extending out over the sink area are three Mini Artesia Shades. They have a vibrant yellow finish that makes them stand out compared to the neutral color pallet throughout the rest of the home – one exception, however, is the front door (shown at the top). These sudden pops of color are typical to Scandinavian style where the design is characterized by simplistic minimalism, basic functionality, and low-cost materials.
