Featured Customer | Remodeling a California Vacation Home
When soon-to-be empty nesters approached interior designer Irene Turner about updating their Bodega Bay, California weekend home, they initially just wanted the dark redwood rooms brightened up to make the space more amenable to entertaining. But Irene saw much more potential for the home, built in the mid 1970s yet never updated, and created a plan that combined the warm, open, and fun personalities of her clients with their casual yet active coastal/country lifestyle. In the dining area, Irene used our Barn Light Warehouse Pendant with a powder coat patina finish to dress up the family table.
“I wanted to design a kitchen and dining area that was family and entertaining friendly plus fun to spend time in,” Irene says. “I also wanted to ensure that the dark redwood rooms were well lit throughout the day and night.” The Warehouse Pendant remains one of our most popular lights not only because of its quality, American made craftsmanship but because of the dozens of ways you can finish this light to create different looks. More than four dozen finish colors are available for this fixture, and you can choose cord, stem, or flush mounting depending on your style and space. A wire cage would add a touch of vintage charm as would a cast guard combined with colored or textured glass.
When Irene’s remodeling efforts were complete, the home was filled with both rustic and nautical details including barn and nautical lighting, barn doors, and simple country hardware. She used green principles throughout including salvaged redwood panels, LED lighting, and salvaged wood for the new hardwood flooring.
“I wanted to create an open space where the views of the ocean and the golf course could be appreciated throughout the day,” she says. “It’s a fun space for entertaining adults, still kid friendly, and yet comfortable and intimate for just the two of them.”
