Wall Sconce Lights Offer Simple Lines, Timeless Style
The bright yellow wall sconce grabbed Michelle’s attention. Contemplating a major remodel of her home in San Clemente, California, Michelle was flipping through HGTV Magazine when she spied a Barn Light Electric Wilcox Deep Bowl Wall Sconce.
“It was bright yellow in the picture and I LOVED it!” Michelle says. “I loved the simple lines. It was fun and playful but timeless. I thought it would blend with both traditional and modern finishes.” Michelle describes her home as beautiful but very modern and geometric and a little more formal than fit their lifestyle.
“It was too nice. Our day-to-day is much more casual and I’m an East Coaster at heart,” she says. “We tried to warm things up and go for a modern farmhouse feel.” For the exterior of their home, Michelle chose the Wilcox she spotted in the magazine but decided to go with a Galvanized finish instead.
“We have stainless steel garage door panels and gate doors so I thought it would blend, plus it also blended well with the cedar shingles and stucco colors,” Michelle explains. She customized her new barn wall sconces with 12″ shades to provide plenty of focused light. The American-made Wilcox is hand spun from commercial-grade aluminum then coated with a durable powder coat finish that is available in dozens of different colors.
“Honestly, I love the bright cheery colors, but I chickened out,” Michelle says. “I knew I would never get sick of the steel — so timeless.” Michelle loved the Wilcox so much that she wanted to use it throughout, but the second floor space was a bit tighter so she chose the smaller Austin Wall Sconce for that area.
“There was not enough space for the Wilcox and the size of the Austin worked,” she notes. “I saw lots of less expensive sconces similar to the Austin online and in stores, but the difference in quality was huge so we ended up getting everything at Barn Light Electric.” Hand crafted in-house by our own metal spinners, Michelle’s Austin wall lights were customized with an 8″ shade and a complementary Galvanized finish.
“I love the galvanized steel finish. It is such a soft, pretty look with the rest of the outside of the house,” Michelle says. “They are really functional, give off great light, and I’m happy every time I look at them! No regrets!”
