Porcelain Enamel Lighting Adapts to Many Design Styles

Whether you live in an industrial loft in New York City, a coastal bungalow in San Francisco, or a big, beautiful ranch house in the heart of Texas, porcelain enamel lighting can fit right into your design scheme. In this industrial style home, a former blanket factory in Milwaukee, the homeowner chose simple materials such as concrete floors and angular wooden furniture to create a clean, calm palette. He also chose to keep the building’s original yellow bricks which add a distinctive bit of character and history to the space.

Barn Lights and BBQ Mean It’s Time for Football in the South

College football season has finally arrived and all across the south, that’s cause for celebration! The Southeastern Conference is home to some of the best teams in NCAA football, and there are long and storied rivalries playing out every Saturday in places like Death Valley, Between the Hedges, and in the Swamp. In Knoxville, Tennessee, home of the Volunteers, football season is prime tailgating time which includes not only the back-of-the-pickup variety but those tailgaters who float to the stadium down the Tennessee River and make up the Vol Navy. Barbeque is a standby for tailgating and Vol fans love the tailgate menu from Dead End BBQ, a great restaurant near campus with classic barn lighting, orange-drenched walls, and plenty of Tennessee memorabilia. It’s a popular spot before the game and after the final whistle too.

Vintage Lighting Lends Authentic Atmosphere for Woodworking

When Roy Underhill, host of the long-running PBS series “The Woodwright’s Shop,” went back to his North Carolina roots to open a woodworking school, he wanted to give his students the full vintage experience. Porcelain Warehouse Shades Light Up Our Life at Sub Shop

You just never know where a classic light like an RLM-inspired warehouse shade will pop up. Like at a Firehouse Subs somewhere off of I-26 in South Carolina where the family stopped for a bite of dinner while on the road. These beautiful red porcelain shades fit the décor like a fireman to a firepole. The entire shop is emblazoned with red accents and there are loads of fire hall memorabilia scattered about such as the antique toy fire trucks sitting on the counter. And what fire hall would be complete without the devoted dalmatian standing at the ready!

Style Me Sundays: Industrial Chic Living Room

Who would have thought the newest interior design trend would spring from such an unlikely source? Industrial chic decor translates the heavy duty, rustic, and ergonomical objects found in factories into functional and stylish pieces for every room in the house. Start with a neutral foundation, like this Almsted rug from IKEA then add fun embellishments. Metal baskets like the perforated metal baskets, and wire baskets are practical means of storage without sacrificing design. Two industrial essentials are the Bordeaux Tin Wall Clock and the Wilcox Studio Light. These accessories look like they are fresh from the factory floor! And don’t forget to juxtapose your hard, cold, materials with soft, colorful, textiles through your furniture selection like this sofa and pillows.

Deep Bowl Pendants Bring Polished Look to Industrial Kitchen

industrial_farmhouse_deep_bowl_pendant.jpg

Nestled in between Brazil and Argentina on the southeastern coast of South America lies tiny Uruguay, a stunning country of rolling plains and fertile coast land. Progressive in politics, business, and environmental causes, it’s no wonder former San Franciscan photographer Heidi Lender decided to pack up and move there. Her new digs were recently featured on Remodelista, and one of our favorite pictures from that post was of her farmhouse style kitchen. The light gray-washed brick walls set off the dark wood of the exposed beams and long dining table beautifully while the pie safe with tin panels adds a country touch. Lender purchased the vintage O’Keefe and Merrit stove and had it shipped to Uruguay — a perfect fit in this tiny kitchen. Read More »
