Classic Barn Lights for New Timber Frame

When Ron started chasing his dream of building a timber frame home in northern Idaho, his vision included lots of wood, earth tones, and a classic feel.

“No fake wood or gimmicks,” he says. Ron’s dream is now reality in a 2,572-square-foot hybrid timber frame home full of real western red cedar, tile floors, granite counters, and classic barn lighting.

“I saw Barn Light Electric ads in This Old House Magazine and in Fine Home Building,” Ron explains. “I like that your barn lights look classic, are simple in design, and are extremely well made in the USA.” Ron chose the Bomber Chain Hung Pendant to highlight the kitchen’s new breakfast bar.

Ron customized these RLM-inspired warehouse lights with 15″ shades, a Barn Red finish, and a rugged chain mounting to accommodate the 14-foot-tall slanted ceiling.

“I needed a large shade since the breakfast bar is more than nine feet long and 40″ wide,” Ron notes. “They fit nicely and complement the cherry cabinetry and Tuscan-style Adobe Sunset red tile floor.” The kitchen pendants are suspended from posts and beams that measure more than seven inches square.

The right scale was also a priority on Ron’s garage which features 10-foot-wide doors. He searched not only for a quality light that he could customize but also one priced to fit his budget. Ron found the perfect combination in our Discount Barn Lighting collection.

“I chose the All Weather Gooseneck Farm Light Wall Mount because I could get a 17″ shade and I liked that scale over the garage doors,” he says. “The quality was great and the price was a consideration.” Ron chose a Black finish for his new garage lights and a G31 gooseneck arm style.

“I think they look great against the gray Granite Peak cement siding. And the gooseneck arm adds more style to the fixture than just a straight arm,” he adds.  “I am very happy with all of the lights. They look like they were made for the house and fit in perfectly.”
