Rustic Industrial Lighting Transforms Florida Home to Urban Loft

How do you transform a traditional Florida-style home into a chic urban loft loaded with rustic industrial style? Jim and Nobel could write a primer on how they took their 1960s-era home in Lauderdale-by-the-Sea to the studs and started from scratch.

“We wanted to do a New York-style loft with wide plank flooring, brick walls, cement counters, rustic barn doors, and barn style lighting,” Jim says. “Some call it a refined industrial look.”

For the kitchen, Jim and Nobel searched for American-made lights they could customize with a red finish to bring color into the space. Google led them to Barn Light Electric and the rest, as they say, is history.

“We had a rustic industrial style in mind for the lights and we found your site,” Jim notes. “We like that you make the lights here in Florida as we try to buy US-made products. Because of the variety you offer, we never looked any further.”

The Industrial Guard Cord Hung Pendant, from our Cord-Hung Pendant Collection, captured their attention. These pendants are customized with a Barn Red finish and a Red Chevron twist cord. A standard cast guard and clear glass complete the look along with antique style Edison bulbs that add a warm ambiance to the room.

“For the simple rustic industrial look we wanted, these lights were made for us,” Jim explains. For the adjacent dining area, they selected the complementary Foundry 4-Light Chandelier. This rustic industrial fixture sports four cast-guard-and-glass lights affixed to a rugged pipe frame mounting. The chandelier has the same Barn Red finish and a six-inch stem for mounting.

“The chandelier is perfect over the reclaimed wood and metal dining table which measures six feet long,” Jim says. “These lights are timeless, beautiful, and practical. They really helped complete the house. We have many recessed lights that we never turn on.”

In two bathrooms, Jim and Nobel used subway tile along with cement style flooring and counters. One bathroom features the Industrial Guard Triple Vanity Light (above) while the second bath received the Industrial Guard Double Vanity Light (below). Both are finished with a durable Industrial Gray powder coat finish.

“The bathrooms are very industrial with pipe hooks and toilet paper holders so the gray vanity lights are perfect,” Jim says. “With the metal framed mirrors and large white porcelain counter top sinks, these vanity lights fit right in.”

“Finding a store like yours saved us time and energy. Most stores here do not sell anything like Barn Light Electric and yours is a rarity for service and quality,” Jim says. “We have recommended you to many of our friends, and even our architect and electrician wanted to get your information. We hope you stay in business for a long time so we can keep recommending you.”
