Featured Customer | Barn Wall Sconce Lends Farmhouse Look to Powder Room Remake

Ah, the poor powder room. It’s one of the smallest rooms in the house and often ignored when it comes to lighting. In creating or renovating a powder room, most people focus on stylish tile or fancy faucets rather than the lighting that will help guests navigate the space. Even if you don’t have a constant stream of guests, the powder room probably gets used every single day by family members making a quick pit stop instead of heading off to the big bathroom upstairs.

When today’s Featured Customer in Bonney Lake, Washington, decided to renovate her powder room, she knew she didn’t want run-of-the-mill vanity lighting.

“I remodeled the powder bath from head to toe — paint, toilet, flooring, custom vanity, and quartz countertop,” Nancy says. “My goal for the lighting was to create a soft lighting that has a beach cottage look. I didn’t want your typical bathroom light.” After seeing some barn wall sconces on Pinterest and finding Barn Light Electric through a Google search, Nancy chose an Austin Wall Sconce for her renovated space. She selected a 10″ shade in a Textured Black finish for over the mirror.

“I just love the style,” Nancy says. She ordered samples of the finishes she liked the most and although she was leaning towards the Galvanized finish, she fell in love with the soft Textured Black instead.

“I didn’t want the Galvanized to clash with my brushed nickel faucet,” she explains, “plus the black option has the white interior which I thought would help reflect the light better.” Nancy uses a 100 watt bulb in her fixture which is bright enough for the small room. The American made Austin Wall Sconce comes in both 8″ and 10″ sizes making it a perfect choice for smaller spaces that need a compact fixture such as powder rooms, hallways, and laundry rooms.

“I love the style of the light and it’s perfect for my space,” Nancy says. “The look is exactly what I wanted and the quality is amazing. It has the feel I was going for and I would love more of these lights in my house!”

We are soon going to start on an update of lighting, faucets and paint in our ensuite bath. That sconce would look awesome above the sink.
