Modern Pendants Offer Industrial Vibe to Cafe
If you love furniture, there’s no better place than High Point, North Carolina, during Market Days. The excitement is electric as more than 75,000 people descend on the Piedmont region to browse and buy everything from sofas and settees to vanities and trestle tables. Showrooms are decked out with the finest furniture and fabrics, and many offer food and drinks hoping to entice shoppers to linger just a bit longer.
Our friends at Barbour Spangle Design in High Point recently renovated a café in one of these showrooms to open the space and make it more inviting. The furniture company uses the hospitality area to serve catered meals and drinks to encourage customers to spend more time in the showroom.
“The original café was much smaller with dark wood cabinetry and dark countertops,” says Brianne Verstat, designer for the project. “But dull and boring doesn’t work for this company. They wanted to infuse new life into their tired, outdated dining area and create a lively, fun, and fresh atmosphere with a West Coast vibe.”
The goal was to make customers feel like hanging out into the evening during Market Days. The Barbour Spangle team used a neutral color palette of white, black, and gray with warm, but light, wood tones for a casual atmosphere that appeals to all customers.
“We chose the Tuscany Modern Pendant because we loved the clean simplicity of the fixture,” Brianne says. “The stem mount added a slight industrial vibe without being over the top.” The designers chose to customize these modern pendant lights with a Bronze finish and a 24″ Galvanized stem.
The Tuscany’s sleek bell-shaped shade provides focused downlight to the tables. The fixture can handle up to a 200-watt bulb to provide plenty of light and the stem mounting makes this ceiling pendant perfect for indoor or outdoor locations.
“We love the contrast against the white walls and warm wood tones,” Brianne says. “We all love them! They provide excellent light for the purpose with great aesthetics.”
