Porcelain Pendant Lighting Complements Industrial Decor

When I first moved into our brand spanking new home back in 2009, I was enthralled with the sheer and utter newness of it all. No one had ever cooked on the stove or soaked in the tub or scribbled with crayons on the walls. I was in love.

It wasn’t long, however, before I found things that I wanted to change. While the construction was incredible, I could tell the builder took shortcuts with some of the fixtures.

Likewise, when Steve and Nancy moved into their new home, they chose to replace the builder-grade pendant lighting throughout. Located in a suburb of Indianapolis, Indiana, the couple’s ranch-style home features an open floor plan filled with Nancy’s treasures.

“My wife likes to decorate with vintage or reclaimed pieces with some color — like turquoise, light blues, and greens,” Steve says. “We wanted light fixtures that complemented this look.” Steve went on the hunt for American-made lighting with a vintage feel. Their first purchase was the Union Pendant Light for the eating area just off the kitchen.

“The Jadite finish color goes well with my wife’s decorating ideas and I especially like the porcelain finish and style of the fixture,” Steve says. This porcelain enamel pendant is customized with a 16″ shade, standard white cord, and a matching Jadite canopy to add a pop of color to the ceiling.

Steve and Nancy liked the quality of this fixture so well they chose the Aero Pendant Light for the adjacent kitchen.

“Since this fixture is near the space where the Jadite fixture hangs, we wanted another porcelain fixture but with a different style. The finish color needed to go well with the current paint, but also future paint colors we might choose,” Steve explains. They customized this ceiling light with a 14 “shade, Graphite finish color, and standard white cord.

For the sink area, Steve and Nancy fell in love with the Kao Gladstone Pendant Light. These industrial style pendants sport a compact 6″ shade, the matching Graphite finish color, and a nickel socket and knob switch.

“We really liked the look of the Gladstone pendants over the sink and counter,” Steve notes. “They go well with both the Aero and the Union fixtures.”

For the guest room, the couple departed from the Porcelain Enamel Collection and went with a classic schoolhouse pendant. Nancy is an accomplished quilter and she liked the look of the Primary Schoolhouse Flush Mount Light with the décor of this room. This American-made pendant is customized with a Galvanized fitter and triple bands of Jadite on the opaque globe.

“We tried to pick colors that would be timeless, work well together, and allow Nancy the freedom to make changes to the wall colors and decorating pieces,” Steve says. “We did a lot of research and kept coming back to Barn Light Electric. The videos, customer photos, and blogs were a great help.”
