Distinctive Stem & Loop Pendants Bring Elegant Style to Kitchen

Early 20th century lighting often consisted of a bare bulb hanging from a cord. To reduce glare and increase worker safety in factories, lighting manufacturers started designing and creating shallow-domed shades to cover the bulbs. This not only protected the bulb but created more focused task lighting.

Those early RLM-style shades have come a long way with new shade styles and finish colors. Mountings also evolved from cord-hung pendants to stem mounts which offer a more formal look to kitchens, entryways, and dining rooms.

When Dorreen started planning the design of her kitchen, she wanted plenty of lighting for the central island. She discovered Barn Light Electric’s unique stem-and-loop mounting which helped her create the exact look she envisioned for this beautiful space.

When considering customizing options, Dorreen chose 14″ shades and a porcelain enamel White finish. She also selected a Putty cotton twist cord, and a 24″ Nickel stem with a knob switch for her new kitchen lighting.

Porcelain shades are handspun from commercial-grade steel in our Florida manufacturing facility. They are prepped then coated with multiple layers of porcelain enamel glass. The shades are fired in our special porcelain oven that reaches 1,500 degrees. This time-honored process seals the enamel to the shade and produces a high-gloss finish that will never fade.

The classic Sinclair shade can also be crafted from copper, brass, or aluminum. A variety of cords, plus stem and canopy options allow customers to create the perfect fixture for their style and space.
