Handcrafted Barn Pendant Lights Bring Rich Color to Remodel

One of the best skills an interior designer keeps in the back pocket is the ability to listen. Not just hear what a client says, but to truly listen and understand the client’s goals, tastes, and use of space.

For example, a rustic live-edge dining table for 12 with a handcrafted chandelier above may be a dream space, but not if the client never entertains and eats at the kitchen island most of the time.

Listening to her clients is but one talent offered by Tammara Stroud, a Seattle-based interior designer who has been creating dream spaces since 2006. A project in Seattle’s Madrona neighborhood involved the remodel of the kitchen plus dining, living, and powder rooms.

The home, built in 1905, is blessed with an abundance of windows. The client wished to take advantage of the natural light but also introduce plenty of color.

“Our client loves bold, rich hues, so we wanted to create a home that was full of color while keeping true to the early 1900s architecture,” Tammara says. In the kitchen, a soft palette of grey quartz counters and a honed marble backsplash are balanced by the kitchen island finished in a rich ochre.

Above the island, Tammara chose three Gladstone Pendant Lights for another splash of color. These handcrafted pendant lights are customized with 8″ shades, Navy finish, and White cords. A brass socket and knob switch add a hint of vintage style.

“We were looking for lights with a fun color and a simple, classic design,” Tammara explains. “These pendants fit both the room scale and period of the house. And the warmth of the brass detailing plays well with the ochre island.”

The deep bowl of the Gladstone is easy to customize with multiple shade sizes and more than 40 finishes to choose from. In addition to the pendant mounting, the Gladstone is available in a wall sconce, swing arm sconce, and floor lamp.

“The scale and color worked well with our overall design,” Tammara says. “We love both the fashion and function of these fixtures.”
