What is Schoolhouse Lighting?

Early pendant lights were often simple bare bulbs hanging from a cord. In the early 20th century, lighting manufacturers began to cover up these bare bulbs with hand-blown, opaque globes. Types of Schoolhouse Lighting Fixtures

Historically, only schoolhouse pendant lighting was available. While still popular as pendants, schoolhouse lights are now prominent as:

With dozens of customization options to choose from — including both clear and the more traditional opaque globe — schoolhouse lighting can be crafted to perfectly complement many contemporary décor styles.

Room and Usage

Schoolhouse fixtures are adaptable to many interior locations and are often found in:

  • Bathrooms as vanity lighting
  • Kitchens as task lighting above islands
  • Dining rooms and living spaces for ambience
  • Laundry rooms for a vintage touch

Schoolhouse lighting also adds a classic look to restaurants, office spaces, and retail stores. Our hand-crafted schoolhouse shades can be customized with colorful fitters and canopies, or optional painted bands on the globe to add even more visual appeal.
