Industrial Pendants for Farmhouse Kitchen Makeover

One of the best ways to find inspiration for your home design and remodeling projects is to tap into the world of home décor blogs. You can easily find other homeowners who are tackling similar projects, see lots of before-and-after photos, and read about the good, the bad, and the ugly of home renovation.

We’ve been following our friend Christina, author of the Christina’s Adventures blog, who has been remodeling a 1902 Victorian home that she and her husband purchased just north of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. When it was time to tackle the kitchen, Christina, who was expecting her second baby at the time, wanted to turn her dark and cramped space into a warm and welcoming farmhouse kitchen. Christina knew lighting was a critical component of the project.

“Since the island is such a focal point in our kitchen, I knew we needed some beautiful ceiling pendants to go above the space,” Christina says. “I am basically obsessed with anything copper, so the Minimalist Copper Cage Pendants were a no brainer!” These vintage industrial pendants that Christina chose feature a black wire cage, black cotton twist cord, and 1910-era Edison style light bulbs.

“I chose the black twist cord so it paired well with the cages over the lights, and it contrasts well with the copper finishing,” she notes. “The style fits perfectly in our farmhouse kitchen and using the Edison bulbs just finishes these off so well. It’s a slight nod to the other vintage touches that we incorporated into our kitchen.”

Over the sink, Christina chose a Brisbane Stem Mount Pendant Light. She customized this American-made ceiling pendant with a 16″ shade, Bronze finish, a Bronze guard, and frosted glass.

“I just loved the industrial farmhouse feel of the Brisbane Pendant the minute I laid my eyes on it,” Christina says. “I finally chose the Bronze finish because it paired so well with the white and the wood that was already in the room. The frosted glass finishes off the look and gives it a soft glow when we’re washing dishes at night.”

Christina blogged about her new kitchen just days before her baby girl was born. The timing was perfect as the newly expanded family settled into a very popular room in the house.

“Our dream kitchen would not be complete without these gorgeous lights,” Christina says. “I really love the light they cast in our kitchen when we turn off the recessed lighting at the end of the day. The kids are tucked into their beds, the dishwasher is quietly humming, and I’m wiping the counter tops after a long day. There’s just something so cozy about this routine, and I love how Barn Light Electric lighting adds to this perfect ambiance.”
