Professional’s Corner | Barn Wall Sconces Add Finishing Touch to Modern Farmhouse

There’s nothing like starting from a clean slate. This gorgeous home in Sag Harbour, New York, was built on the existing foundation from the former residence. Its location in a wooded clearing led the creative minds at Studio Tim Campbell to design the home as a simple, yet modern farmhouse with a nod to the vernacular of the area.

“We chose to manipulate this aesthetic with a more modern, yet still minimal and understated interior referencing woods, stones, and luxurious fabrics,” says Tanis Paul, senior designer and project manager with the firm. For the exterior, the team chose a classic barn wall sconce to illuminate the simple design.

“This particular fixture is quite common in residential dwellings throughout the area and New England,” explains Tanis. “And we felt that they were appropriate to the design aesthetic in a very subtle and unobtrusive way.” Sixteen Astro Wall Sconces surround the home highlighting the walkways and doorways. These particular shades are 12″ wide with a durable powder coat finish in Black. They are American made and feature a sleek, shallow bowl that can handle up to a 200 watt bulb.

“We loved the traditional, unadorned form and felt that as an exterior fixture, it would provide just the right amount of light to illuminate the simple design,” says Tim Campbell, principal with the firm. The Astro is part of our line of hand crafted, barn wall sconces that represent classic styles from the 1940s. These charming wall lights are smaller in size than traditional gooseneck lights but are perfect for the garage, bathroom, and front porch.

“They perfectly complement the door, window trim, and hardware and will look stunning once the vertical siding greys out over time,” Campbell notes. “We discovered Barn Light Electric through Remodelista and they are now one of our go-to resources for simple, beautiful fixtures.”
