American-Made Barn Lights Make Texas-Sized Statement on New Home

Installing a cheap, imported light from a big-box store is akin to hanging a paint-by-number landscape over the fireplace mantel. Anybody can do it and it all looks the same.

Lighting makes a statement like art on the wall,” says Tyler O’Brien, president and owner of Agave Custom Homes in central Texas. We couldn’t agree more.

On a recent project in Wimberly, Texas, just southwest of Austin, Tyler used some The Original™ pendants and gooseneck lights to make a Texas-sized statement on a new home he designed along with Felicia Foster of Barron Custom Design.

“We were going for a barn theme, and for the exterior lighting, we wanted an industrial, barn look to the fixtures,” Tyler says. “We also wanted to protect the night sky by having the lighting focused downwards, not up towards the sky.”

Tyler chose four Original™ Warehouse Gooseneck Lights for the outdoor kitchen and patio area.

These 14″ RLM-style warehouse shades are finished in a bright Buttery Yellow and customized with a G15 gooseneck arm in the same finish. A matching Original™ Warehouse Pendant Light, also in Buttery Yellow, complements the setting. This ceiling pendant is 18″ and features a standard black cord which is suitable for damp locations such as this covered patio.

“I thought the yellow would pop against the gray and red accents,” Tyler notes. “It goes back to the fact that lighting needs to make a statement inside and out.”

Tyler stayed in the Original™ family, one of our most  popular shades, and selected three 14″ and one 18″ Original™ goosenecks with a Black finish to place around the exterior of the home. All were fitted with the G15 gooseneck arm in a matching finish. These American-made warehouse shades are hand spun from commercial grade materials and will stand up to anything Mother Nature dishes out in Central Texas.

These classic barn lights give the new home the distinctive edge the owners and Tyler were looking to create.

“You can make a statement with lighting either with the style of the fixture or the shadows that the light produces,” Tyler advises. “Find unique fixtures that set your home apart from others.”
