Original Barn Lights Are Repurposed In This NYC Loft

Design*Sponge, an online design blog, recently featured before and after pictures of a New York City loft’s makeover. Key components of the upgrade included original barn lights that shine over the the centralized wooden island and workspace.

Porcelain warehouse shades with a green finish were chosen by a tandem of talented young designers and florists at Poppies & Posies Floral & Event Design. Each of the original barn lights add a bit of historic charm and character to the industrial farmhouse style home. The vintage industrial lighting was strategically placed to showcase the garden inspired floral arrangements placed in antique bottles and vases along the table. Thanks to the RLM warehouse shades, a focused beam of light is directly projected on the table where the founders meet with clients for event planning. The lights were easily incorporated into the vintage and rustic elements to create a memorable setting that will leave a permanent impression with every client who visits the studio.

Barn Light Electric sells many original barn lights similar to the ones pictured above. The lights come from traditional American industrial brands such as Crouse-Hinds, Appleton and Miller. Regardless of which model you choose, each was originally built with a sturdy, porcelain enamel construction that has allowed it to withstand years of use. The strong porcelain enables the fixture to retain its original shape and luster for decades. Originally, most of these lights were found around early 19th century industrial factories and workshops, but today, these vintage barn lights can be brought into your farmhouse or industrial loft as a token of an early American era.

Artist Kate Pruitt of Design Sponge raved about the industrial lights and their role as part of the inspiring and unique appearance of Poppies & Posies studio:

As someone who has always dreamed of having a big, open, loft-like studio space with wood floors, industrial lamps, big windows and brick walls, I think I may die of envy if I stare too long at this amazing makeover of the Poppies & Posies studio. The furniture itself is rustic and spare, which allows for the lush colors of the flowers, vases and vintage knick-knacks to really stand out.
