Industrial Pendant Lighting Stars in Buddy's Bakery Rescue on TLC

We are fortunate to work with many talented designers who always seem to come up with fresh ideas no matter what design dilemma they face. We met one of our all-time favs, Kim Lewis of Kim Lewis Designs, when she was the lead designer on the ABC hit show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. In her six-year stint with EM:HE, Kim designed more than 120 homes in 43 states. She is the original vagabond designer!

One of Kim’s latest expeditions was to Bedford, Massachusetts, where she teamed up with TLC’s Buddy Valastro, better known as the Cake Boss, to revive and renew the Prince Street Café & Bakery. In this episode of Buddy’s Bakery Rescue, owner Dana Strayton struggled with the bakery side of her business. The space not only needed renovating, but the cherished recipes that Dana’s grandfather has passed down to her were in need of updating.

Cue the design team!

“My design for the Prince Street Café & Bakery was truly inspired by the streets of Boston, Massachusetts,” Kim says. “In design, I love trying to bring something back to its roots. Dana’s grandfather’s original bakery was on Prince Street in Boston, so why not bring the streets of this great city right inside the bakery!” And if you didn’t see the episode, that’s exactly what Kim and the design team did!

Using siding, brick, and dentil mouldings, the team transformed each wall of the bakery to look like a different building façade. An old gas lantern stands in one corner and a bureau by the front door holds photos of Dana’s grandfather on Prince Street. To highlight the new bakery cases, which are chock full of traditional Italian goodies, Kim chose the Sydney Pendant Light.

These 16″ shades are American made and hand crafted by our metal spinners here in Florida. Kim chose a classic Bronze finish for the shade, a matching Bronze cast guard, and clear glass for maximum light.

“I selected the bronze pendants from Barn Light Electric because they had the perfect industrial style to complement the exterior inspiration while still functioning well for an operating café and bakery,” Kim explains. The Sydney comes in four shade sizes, 18 durable powder coat finish colors, and more than a dozen cord options. It is also available as the Sydney Stem Mount Pendant and the Sydney Gooseneck Light.
