How To | Light Up the Kitchen Sink with Pendants, Gooseneck Lights & More

The kitchen is almost always the heart of a home. It serves as a multipurpose space for making meals, doing homework, gathering with family, entertaining friends, and enjoying quiet moments. Kitchen lighting must satisfy a variety of needs and often includes both task lighting and decorative lighting.

Today we’re exploring lighting for the kitchen sink. If you’re lucky, a window over the sink provides natural light plus a view, but an overhead fixture offers illumination after dark. We’ve gathered some of our favorite customer photos that show lighting up the kitchen sink can be anything but boring!

We love this sweet kitchen designed by Sarah Phipps in Bend, Oregon. Sarah chose the Seaside Gooseneck Light in a Galvanized finish to play up the farmhouse style. The American-made gooseneck spreads plenty of light with its shallow shade while the wavy edge adds a playful element to the design.

One of our favorite farmhouse details is an apron front sink. Christina, of Christina’s Adventures, opted for a copper version that is the focal point of her space. It’s especially lovely at night under the glow of a Brisbane Stem Mount Pendant.

This more traditional, white apron front sink is surrounded by classic subway tile and illuminated by Frontier Angle Shades, a less traditional choice for kitchens, but one that completely works!

In Cynthia’s coastal beach cottage, color was key to the design of the kitchen. She fell in love with our retro Schoolhouse Collection and the ability to customize these fixtures with bands of color. The Primary Schoolhouse Flush Mount Pendant is the perfect fit over Cynthia’s kitchen sink and offers a happy pop of yellow to the space.

Melissa also found her heart’s desire in our Schoolhouse Collection. The Primary Schoolhouse Pendant Light features a classic opaque globe and can be customized with seven different options.

Sarah opted for brass as well to warm up her black-and-white kitchen. She liked the interesting shape of these Chestnut Brass Pendants, and she customized these with a black-and-white cloth cord. The hand-spun brass pendants are American made and feature 12″ shades and a raw Brass finish.

Caroline tends to linger over the dishes thanks to the lovely view from her kitchen sink. She chose the Barn Light Mini Artesia Wall Sconce to highlight her expansive windows. These wall sconces feature a Galvanized finish and G38 mini gooseneck arm. The Mini Artesia, one of our most compact RLM-inspired warehouse shades, may be small in size but it’s big on classic barn light style.
