Text Box: BOROUGH OF BARNEGAT LIGHT
Text Box: The old Coast Guard Cottage, on East Seventh Street, is undergoing its transformation from a charming historic structure to a beautiful administration building that our Borough can be proud of.
The process involved in modernizing this building and making it compliant with current fire and public access codes involved a difficult balancing act. On the one hand there are the guide lines of National Park Service and the NJ State Office of Historical Text Box: Preservation and on the other we have practical and budgetary considerations. For example, we were able to refurbish the existing windows and maintain the historical integrity of the building, while saving the substantial costs of installing new windows.
The stair tower addition to the rear of the building was a code requirement, having to do with fire egress and handicapped access. That portion of the project is now completed.
Currently, we are sheet Text Box: rocking the interior of the building and sched
uling the finishes. We are, also reviewing quotes for the parking lot, curbs and walks, as well the computer and phone systems.
